Why hello,
There are so many ingredients that go into a handmade life aren’t there?
I bet you ripped out your favorite magazine clippings, or started a pinterest board to save up all your dreams and schemes too.
This corner of the digital world is where I share with you what comes of all that dreaming and scheming when we put down roots and made a home out of a ramshackle beat up old victorian farmplace.
We didn’t stop there, nope then we shared it with a mess of other artists and collaborators, so I’ll tell those tales too.
Sometimes it’s messy, sometimes it flops - and I'll share it.
In this space, it feels like I can just share the whole of it and you can share back with me the moment it went sideways for you too, and how you righted the ship, or if you didn’t, I like that about this Substack space.
But long before our place in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, & long before all that came to fruition I saw an ache in the world, and it called to me.
In middle school, those years of awkward ouch, I was trying my best to twirl girls around and show them their magical essence, their bit of dream dust that belonged to just them. You can imagine the varying degrees of success …and the baffled stares…
Later as an independent fashion designer with a handmade line of sustainable duds I would sometimes make one-of-a-kind frocks for that unique bit of essence for a human or two.
Today I teach an online school for folks on how to make one-of-a-kind frocks for themselves. A lot of times it starts with coming to terms with where we are rather than where we wish we were.
I teach about that magical bit o’ star dust that is wholly our own.
Sometimes I’ll share about that. I’m so glad you’re here.

Why subscribe?
Subscribing - for free, or for a paid membership - means you get all of my updates delivered straight to your inbox and can find them all together on the dedicated substack website.
When you upgrade to a paid subscription you not only provide support to the arts but you also help to provide childcare costs for the hours spent creating, and you receive private community access to private posts and more.
I love Sara Tasker’s suggestion of adding favorite writers and creators to make your own tailored magazine in the substack app.
I’m so glad to meet you.
Warmly,
Sarahbeth
